catapult-2The high school students have been studying the Renaissance the last three weeks in preparation for their field trip this Friday January 27. The study began with extensive research of the famous people and key events of the Renaissance. This was followed by a Renaissance Tournament between the grades. In this competition, students played Renaissance games that included catapulting (see photo), watched an archery demonstration comparing current archery to that of the Renaissance, and studied Shakespeare quotes. They also ate Renaissance food and wore Renaissance clothing. The students learned of the impact the Renaissance left on Math. During the Renaissance, a universal language of math was developed by introducing the common math symbols which are used today such as solving cubic functions and imaginary numbers just to mention a couple. All their studies now culminate in a field trip to the Renaissance Fair in Kerrville, TX.
